Let your light so shine before men...

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in Heaven.

Matthew ch 5 v 14

Good evening,

I have been relishing Matthew chapter 5.  What a very special poetry section – such a meaningful passage beautifully written.  Our God is so good to us – ponder the blessings within the beatitudes.  Such

comforting words, and we are reassured by the definite nature of the phrases – for they shall obtain; for they shall see; for they shall inherit.  There is no doubt here, no equivocation.  Now that you are feeling secure in your position as God’s child, full of the knowledge that He has promised all these blessings to you, let us look at the traits that we need to live and demonstrate to receive the fullness of this gift.  Are we truly meek?  When someone pushes into a queue in front of us do we feel a sense of injustice and quietly resent this?  Or do we meekly accept as a servant would?  Go through the remainder of these traits and see when we face the refining fire of God what will be left?  I certainly feel wanting on many measures, I have work to do.  Reading on to verses 13-15, and after my self reflection of verses up to 11, I wonder how the Eternal God commands us to shine as a beacon, a light to draw others in?  We are so imperfect how could God trust us to be an example to others? Yet He takes our poor materials and turns us into gold.

My heart is full with verse 16.  There is so much in this that I haven’t the words to explain.  I feel both humbled and exalted in Him.  This is my desire that people around me may see God’s work through me.  That would be a life well lived.  I know I fail so often, I never want to be an impediment to anyone, rather to life in such a way that some of God’s light will be visible to the people I meet every day.

God bless,

Cheryl Kelly
