about MAPUTO SEMINARY,
MOZAMBIQUE

The Maputo Theological and Biblical Seminary was established in 2001 and classes started that February. The aim of the seminary is training leaders for God’s church and world. Donations to the running of the seminary can be made or contributions towards student scholarships (a full scholarship is £75 per month).

On September 12, 2007, OMS missionaries, representatives, partners, and friends gathered together to celebrate the completion of the new seminary building for the Maputo Biblical & Theological Seminary (MBTS) and to explore next steps for theological education in Mozambique. At that meeting, Pastor Mordecai Nhabanga said, “While good theology is important, what is lacking in much of Mozambique is good leadership.” He went on to encourage the seminary to focus on leadership development for the Mozambican church.

OMS agreed with Pastor Mordecai in 2017, and we still agree with him today. Leadership matters. As John Maxwell once said, “Everything rises and falls on leadership.” The vision is to continue to invest in Mozambican women and men who will lead their homes, churches, ministries, and communities in the truth and grace of God’s kingdom, impacting this nation for Christ.
