OMS is a faith mission standing in the historic evangelical tradition of the church. We believe:
In the full and unique inspiration of the Holy Bible as the divine Word of God, the only infallible, sufficient, and authoritative rule of faith and practice.
In one God, eternally existent in three persons of one essence – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
That substitutionary atonement for man’s sin is provided through the shed blood of Jesus Christ.
Justification comes by faith, through grace, and the Holy Spirit’s work of regeneration makes a believer a new creation in Christ.
Sanctification (infilling of the Spirit) is a work of grace in the heart of a believer, given by the Holy Spirit at the moment of faith and total commitment, resulting in purity of heart and empowerment for holy living and service.
In response to the Great Commission, OMS emphasizes evangelism, training of national leadership for ministry, and establishing local churches that are able to reproduce in their own cultures.
Founded in Japan in 1901, OMS now ministers in more than 50 countries in Asia, Africa, Europe and Latin America and the Caribbean.
